4 days on the Path of the Lands and the Mediterranean Diet - Cilento

NEXT GROUP WALK
from Tuesday 13th May to Friday 16th May
from Saturday 28th June to Monday 1st July
‘The Path of the Lands of the Mediterranean Diet’ is designed to be walked from SOUTH to NORTH, starting from the Archaeological Park of Elea/Velia in Ascea Marina and ending at the Park of Poseidonia/Paestum in Capaccio- Paestum. A preference that does not preclude the possibility of doing it the other way round without any particular differences. It extends entirely in the province of Salerno, in Cilentano territory within the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park areas.
We will cover the first 4 stages
The 143 km of the Path represents a “Mediterranean way of life” that stretches across the Cilento territory, embracing coast and hills in a journey that combines culture, history, nature and gastronomic creativity that we will enjoy at every single stage.
Following in the footsteps of the Greek-Roman civilisations, it links the ancient cities of Poseidonia/Paestum and Elea/Velia, offering travellers a unique experience that touches on seven fundamental dimensions: the anthropology of the Cilento people, western philosophical thought, food and wine culture, archaeology, landscape, the multi-sensory experience of travelling for wellness and the concept of slowness.

TOUR PROGRAMME:
1 DAY ASCEA - CASALVELINO
Morning arrival in Ascea. Meeting with the guide at the Archaeological Park of Velia at 9.45 am. Activities start at 10.00 am. Walking and breathing where Greek philosophers and doctors did, looking where the Gods looked, step by step, among the ancient Greco-Roman and mediaeval ruins, immersed in the Mediterranean nature of the Archaeological Park of Elea - Velia.
This is where the journey begins, from what was once one of the most important city-states of Magna Graecia. Cradle of philosophy and medicine, home of Parmenides and Zeno, founders of the Eleatic school that gave rise to western thought.
Packed lunch provided by participants. Afterwards, accommodation and dinner.
stage length: 15.05 km
uphill height difference: 370 m
downhill height difference: 156 m
DAY 2: CASALVELINO - POLLICA
Breakfast at the hotel. Backpack on your shoulders and off we go for the second stage.
Among the hilly terraces where olive trees, fig trees and vines are lost in the infinite shades of green of the Mediterranean scrub and the art of dry-stone walls (a Unesco heritage site), until you reach the crystal-clear blue of the sea washing the beaches, which are among the most beautiful in Italy: an area that has always been a crossroads of food exchanges, now officially recognised as the home of the Mediterranean diet and the land of good living.
Packed lunch provided by participants. Arrival at the facility, dinner and overnight stay.
stage length: 16.79 km
difference in altitude on the way up: 555 m
difference in altitude on the way down: 542 m
DAY 3: POLLICA - SAN MAURO CILENTO SERRAMEZZANA
Breakfast at the hotel. Backpack on your shoulders and you set off on the penultimate stage that goes from the coastal villages to the hillside ones, up to the highest altitudes, through ‘the golden valley’ that unites them: the sunlit plots, the ruins of water mills along the banks of the streams and those of the imposing limestone represent the silent witnesses and evident traces of a time when this portion of the territory was at the centre of flour and lime production. Packed lunch provided by participants.
Accommodation, dinner and overnight stay.
stage length: 16.4 km
difference in altitude on the way up: 892 m
difference in altitude on the way down: 615 m
4 DAY: SERRAMEZZANA - MONTECORICE
After breakfast at the facility we head for Montecorice, where we will be caressed by the sunlight that irradiates these coastal hills rich in clayey soil, as do the trees and plants that glisten like hair on the rocky walls of the ‘Ripe Rosse’ oasis, in whose sky it is easy to spot buzzards and peregrine falcons.
The intense and fresh scent of the vast forest of Aleppo pines will accompany you until you arrive on the same beach where, until not many decades ago, sailors unravelled the “libbani”, the ancient vegetable ropes made from parta grass or more commonly “tagliamani”. Packed lunch provided by participants. In Montecorice we will conclude our journey where we will take a transfer to the nearby Agropoli station, where everyone will make their own way back.
stage length: 16.39 km
uphill height difference: 397 m
downhill height difference: 407 m
