The Way of St Nilus

NEXT GROUP WALK
from Saturday 17 May to Saturday 24 May
from Saturday 7 June to Saturday 14 June
This is a fascinating itinerary of over 100 km, divided into 8 stages, which accompanies the walker through the picturesque region of lower Cilento to discover the history of the Byzantine saints who inhabited it, first and foremost Nilo da Rossano, starting from Sapri and arriving as far as Palinuro.

The itinerary alternates between ascents and descents among the beech woods of the mountains and the holm oaks and olive trees of the Mediterranean maquis, with picturesque medieval settlements emerging along the way.

The Gulf of Policastro can rightly be considered the extreme part of the Mercùrion region, a refuge for influential figures of Italo-Greek monasticism.
This is the stage with the highest overall height difference, and it is tiring especially in the first and longest ascent that leads to the maximum altitude of 814 m.
On the other hand, the panorama you can enjoy is extraordinary, as extraordinary is the landscape that crosses Le Caselle di Tortorella and then arrives in the hamlet of Battaglia. Stops along the way, packed lunch provided by participants.
Before reaching the centre of Casaletto, the San Nilo Path reaches the evocative locality of ‘Capelli di Venere’, a jewel of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park.Arrival, dinner and overnight stay.

Here you can visit the beautiful village and then descend towards the Rio Gerdenaso, a tributary of the Bussentino, and then into the Farneto forest. Stop along the way, packed lunch provided by participants. A medieval bridge, still well preserved, marks the last stretch leading to the main square of Morigerati.Accommodation in a hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
