Sunday the 25th February: MONTE CORACE A MARE- Montecorice
The Ancient Cilento, around Monte della Stella area, has always been an area characterised by numerous old water mills, the main driving force of the agricultural economy in the past. But few people know that, on the hill of Santa Maria delle Grazie near the town of Montecorice, there is a windmill, whose position easily hints at its exposure to the libeccio (south-westerly wind) for most of the year.
This more unique than rare example of rural architecture will be the final destination, closing our circular route.
Starting from Montecorice, we will walk up the hill overlooking one of Cilento's most fascinating coastal stretches, the Ripe Rosse; The path, immersed in Mediterranean scrub and Aleppo pines, will lead us to the beach of Baia Arena, where we will stop for our lunch break, at the end of which we will reach the small hamlet of Case del Conte to climb the hill on the opposite side, reaching the windmill, and then return to Montecorice
PRECISION: A significant percentage of the route is on asphalt; the mill cannot be visited INTERNALLY at present.
