Visit Pertosa Caves
The whole hypogeum complex is about 3000 meters long, the visit is exciting also for visitors less interested to the own speleological features, they will feel like suspended between heaven, earth and water. The initial stretch of the caves is flooded by the waters from the river Negro, an underground river that it’s possible to sail on board a raft. In the caves, an advanced lighting system ensures the protection of visitors and safeguards the environment from light pollution, providing sets of lights highly suggestive and full of charm.
Archaeological value: The Pertosa - Auletta caves were inhabited since the Bronze age and by the end of the nineteenth century, with the first excavations, were found interesting archaeological finds, as well as a complex of stilt houses dating back to the mi-bronze. These archaeological remains are preserved in the Museum MIdA-Museums Integrated Environment, which houses also a section dedicated to the biodiversity of the Cilento area.
