Visit the WWF OASIS in Morigerati
visit the area From the historical centre of Morigerati to the caves where the river Bussento returns to the surface after running about 4 km under the surface.
Inside the WWF Oasis it’s possible to admire spectacular water features and waterfalls.
The fresh and clear water it’s home to trout, crayfish, river crab.
This paradise, in the heart of the National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano, is also home to mammals such as porcupines, wild cats and wolves, and numerous species of birds.
The cave entrance is truly spectacular: a portal of 20 metres high and 10 metres wide.
You enter by descending a staircase carved into the limestone and then a wooden bridge allows you to cross the river that you can see flowing from the rock below.
The Bussento river:
It rises from the southern slope of Mount Cervati, 900 metres above sea level, from the source named Varco la Peta in the small town of Sanza (Sa). After about 20 km it flows into the artificial dam of Lake Sabetta. Then, near Caselle in Pittari (Sa), the Bussento river sinks into a large swallowhole that passes under Mount Panello and re-emerge after about 5 km at Morigerati.
The oasis can be visited every time of the year by reservation (except in adverse weather conditions; the oasis is closed on rainy days).
