ORCHIDS VALLEY

ORCHIDS VALLEY
63 of 72 species of orchids flowing in the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park can be found in a small valley on the eastern slopes of Cervati Mountain, in the municipality of Sassano. Nowhere in the National Park we can find a similar concentration of species and that’s why the place is known as the Orchids Valley. Here, at the beginning of spring you can see an incredible variety of shapes and colours: from the flowers of Orchis Italica to those ones of Orchis Simia; from those Ophrys Apifera to those of Orchis Papilionacea. The orchids are just one of the particularities of this area. In fact, along the road that leads from Sassano to the valley, you can also admire a valuable record of birch, rare species in the Park.
Best time to visit: I spring to admire the orchids.
